The Seville Aquarium Celebrates its 10th Anniversary Reaffirming its Commitment to Marine Conservation

The Seville Aquarium celebrated its 10th anniversary last night with a special event that brought together institutions, collaborators, and friends who have been a fundamental part of its journey. During the celebration, the aquarium's role in education, conservation, and marine sustainability was highlighted, values that have guided its work over the last decade.

Rocío Alcázar, manager of the aquarium, emphasized the importance of this milestone: “This anniversary is a joint celebration with all those who have been part of our history. Our goal remains the same: to inspire people and gain allies in the protection of oceans and rivers. We look to the future with enthusiasm and the commitment to continue working for a bluer world”.

Marta Calabuig, director of the aquarium division of Global Omnium, stated: “We have revitalized a space that also has an important educational role, where we are continuously incorporating new attractions such as the recently inaugurated virtual reality space. We are also the first aquarium in Spain with zero carbon footprint”.

During the event, Rafael Carmona, president of the Port Authority, highlighted the close relationship between the aquarium and the Port of Seville, a collaboration that has grown over the years. He also announced upcoming improvements in the aquarium's surroundings to facilitate access and enhance the visitor experience.

For her part, the Councilor for Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy, Catalina García, emphasized the aquarium's educational work, highlighting its impact on environmental awareness among new generations.

The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, closed the event highlighting the aquarium's role as a reference in the city's cultural and leisure offerings. He also underlined its privileged location next to the Guadalquivir River, a space that, in his words, “has meant so much to Seville”, and thanked the aquarium for its contribution to enriching the environment and local tourism.

In these ten years, the Seville Aquarium has received more than two million visitors and has established itself as a reference in education and conservation of marine biodiversity. Looking to the future, the Aquarium reaffirms its commitment to scientific dissemination, marine conservation, and environmental education, with the aim of continuing to inspire future generations and building a bluer world.
