The Marine Biology Laboratory of the US Presents the Scientific Studies that Will be Developed within the Collaboration Agreement for the Development of Scientific Activities in the Guadalquivir Estuary.
Last Friday, January 9, the three scientific studies that will be developed within the Collaboration Agreement signed between the Port Authority, the University of Seville, and Aquagestión Sur were presented at the Port Authority. An agreement that will enable the Seville Aquarium to have a Biological Research Area R, directed by the Head of the Zoology Department, Professor José Carlos García. A space of 250 square meters, where the Marine Biology Laboratory of the University will develop experimental research in controlled environments, and from where work will be done to protect and conserve those protected or endangered species.
For their part, the three field subprojects, which will be developed over the next three years, will serve as support to advance the knowledge of the estuary and the impact of human activities on it. These subprojects will be the following:
1. The first subproject “Structure and spatio-temporal dynamics of the zooplanktonic community of the lower Guadalquivir: relationship with environmental variables and implications for estuary management” will be directed by Ignacio González Gordillo, Professor at the University of Cádiz and secretary of the Andalusian Center for Marine Science and Technology.
2. The second subproject “Study of the characteristics of sediments and recent sedimentary record of the Guadalquivir River estuary” will be directed by José Borrego Flores, Professor at the University of Huelva and member of the PAI group of Applied Geosciences and Environmental Engineering.
3. Miguel Ferrer Baena, Research Professor at CSIC, will be in charge of leading the third subproject “Determination of the effects of human activities on bird communities associated with the Guadalquivir River”.
This agreement, which will allow the development of scientific and teaching activities linked to the Aquarium and the Guadalquivir estuary, is sponsored by Hotel Ribera de Triana.
