Mantecados from Estepa at the Seville Aquarium to Celebrate the 5th Centenary of the First Circumnavigation of the World
The Seville Aquarium and the Regulatory Council of Mantecado and Polvorón from Estepa have joined forces to celebrate the 5th Centenary of the First Circumnavigation of the World. For this, they have prepared several activities in which Magellan, Elcano, and the precious spices they brought from their journey will be the protagonists.
On the occasion of the 5th centenary of the first circumnavigation of the world, the Regulatory Council of Mantecado and Polvorón from Estepa will provide free samples to aquarium visitors in special packaging, boxes themed with Magellan – Elcano, since cinnamon and cloves, which are essential raw materials for their products, arrived for the first time through this voyage.
Additionally, on Saturday, November 23, and Sunday, November 24, at 12:00 PM, there will be a free workshop for children where they can make their first mantecado and learn about this centuries-old way of making Christmas sweets. During the activity, the little ones will knead and shape each of their mantecados, using the most traditional and artisanal method, leaving them ready to bake at home. The Secretary of the Regulatory Council, Mr. José María Fernández, will be in charge of explaining and guiding them through the manufacturing process (Limited spaces available).
Aquarium visitors can also participate on Saturday, November 23, in the “Land Ho!” workshop, where they will discover all the secrets of the Spice Islands and, upon finishing, can build their own spyglass with recycled materials. An opportunity to relive the greatest adventure in the history of navigation, sailing the waters of seas and oceans to reach their destination (free activity with aquarium admission).
These actions are part of the activities designed to celebrate the 5th Centenary of Magellan and Elcano’s circumnavigation of the world, a feat whose theme is present throughout the Aquarium’s tour.
