The Seville Aquarium Joins Science Week with Jellyfish as the Main Feature
Once again, the Seville Aquarium participates in Science Week, which takes place from November 4 to 10 and is coordinated by the Descubre Foundation. This year, the activity developed to showcase the more scientific-educational aspect of the Sevillian aquarium will feature one of the most mysterious creatures of the sea, the jellyfish, as its protagonist.
“Corals, Jellyfish, and Other Stinging Creatures” is the name of the activity that will take place in the “CALMA” jellyfish exhibition area. It’s a free activity (with aquarium admission) for visitors that will be held daily from 11:00 to 18:30.
Aimed at all audiences, the activity will focus on showing the life of stinging animals, specifically jellyfish and corals. With the collaboration of the public, curiosities about their life cycles, why they sting, and how we should act in case of a sting will be studied. The issue of plastic pollution and how it affects animals that feed on jellyfish will also be discussed.
Visitors to the aquarium, both individuals and general groups and schools, can participate in the three modules that make up this original workshop:
•“Don’t Stress Me or I’ll Strobilate” to learn about the life cycle of jellyfish.
• “Be Careful with Me and My Friend” for the study of the stinging capacity of jellyfish and their closest relatives (corals, anemones, sea pens, gorgonians, etc.), as well as their diversity of forms and lifestyles.
•“Imitation Jellyfish” to delve into the problem of plastic pollution.
The activity will feature numerous educational resources (biological samples, optical microscopy, audiovisuals, etc.) and theatrical representations on how to act in case of a jellyfish sting.
In addition, there will be a special promotion on tickets for students, as those who present their student ID at the aquarium ticket office from November 4 to 10 will receive a 20% discount on the individual rate.
