The Plastic Ocean Team Visits the Seville Aquarium
An important delegation from Plastic Ocean UK has visited the facilities of the new Seville Aquarium this week. During their stay, they were able to meet with several members of the aquarium’s Education Department to initiate a collaboration aimed at establishing the correct values to create a wave of change in plastic use.
The visit, led by the Director of the “Plastic Ocean UK” Foundation, Jo Ruxton, provided first-hand knowledge of the environmental awareness projects developed at the aquarium, especially those focused on the fight against single-use plastics or microplastics and their impact on the marine environment. During this visit, action plans were also outlined for future collaboration to convey the science, sustainability, and education programs developed by the “Plastic Ocean UK” Foundation to aquarium visitors and the teaching community.
This is a great opportunity for the Seville Aquarium to raise awareness among the more than fifty thousand children who visit its facilities about the problems oceans are facing and turn them into “educators”, so that the change in consciousness sprouts from the youngest. Plastic pollution is damaging all ecosystems on Earth. Every year, more than 8 million tons of plastic reach our oceans. Through a change in attitude that generates good practices regarding the use and value of plastics, we can stop plastic pollution in just one generation.
Plastic Ocean UK was the first charitable organization worldwide dedicated to combating plastics. Globally known for the award-winning documentary “A Plastic Ocean”, it has been working for over ten years to combat “plastic blindness” and conveying to the population easy ways to consume less plastic.
