The Seville Aquarium Enters the Official Program of the 5th Centenary of the First Circumnavigation of the World
The Seville Aquarium will be present this year at FITUR presenting its new program of Magellanic activities, both for the general public and for educational centers. Following the recent inclusion of the Aquarium’s project in the official program of activities developed by the National Commission for the “5th Centenary of the expedition of the first circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastian Elcano”, under the Ministry of Culture, the Sevillian aquarium will begin to present its actions to celebrate this historic feat.
The Seville Aquarium carries Magellan’s great adventure in its DNA, given that, from its opening in 2014 to the technological and thematic reinforcement, as well as the inclusion of new species that was carried out after the profound reform by Global Omnium, the entire exhibition route of the enclosure follows the same path as the first circumnavigation of the planet, from its departure in the port of Seville in 1519, in search of a western route to the Spice Islands, until its return three years later.
In the project “What Magellan Did Not See”, it refers to the possibilities that visitors have to contemplate the underwater animals, which live in the areas and habitats where the ships of that expedition passed in the 16th century, something that the navigators could not know for the most part. In addition to the existing content, it includes new fixed signage along the route, thematic activities, as well as specific references and recordings, and milestones of the journey.
Among the projects that have been approved by the national commission are the most diverse Spanish and Andalusian institutions such as the City Council of Seville or Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Ministry of Defense, Spanish National Library, as well as other groups of various kinds.
