The Director of the Seville Aquarium, Juan Antonio Romero, Participates in an Expedition to the Coral Triangle

On September 29th, the director of the Seville Aquarium embarked on an international expedition, which under the name “Elysium”, aims to showcase the richness of the Coral Triangle (in Papua New Guinea) and convey the ocean’s problems to society.

“Elysium” has involved the world’s best artists, photographers, scientists, musicians, and writers to create a reference record of the flora and fauna of marine biodiversity in this area, from a perspective never seen before, through art and science.

An expedition consisting of more than 50 professionals (mostly Americans, Australians, etc.) that includes the recently awarded “Princess of Asturias Award for Concord” recipient Sylvia Earle (in the role of Chief Scientist) and in which the Seville Aquarium is fortunate to participate through the only Spaniard on the team, Juan Antonio Romero*, who holds the positions of “Fish team leader” and “Docudirector”.

This is a unique opportunity to capture all the beauty of the epicenter of marine biodiversity on the planet through all forms of art, to achieve greater awareness and understanding of the impacts of climate change on coral reef environments.
