The Seville Aquarium Receives its First Fish

The Seville Aquarium has opened its doors to welcome the first fish that will live in its tanks. After acclimating several specimens of the species Anemonia sulcata (anemones), Marthasterias glacialis (starfish), Paracentrotus lividus (sea urchins) and Holothuria sp (sea cucumbers) in recent days, which have acted as water quality bioindicators, the Aquarium’s Biology team has begun to introduce the first fish into the exhibition tanks.

Specifically, there is an Acanthurus dussumieri (crowned surgeonfish), a Zebrasoma scopas (brown surgeonfish) and five specimens of Ctenochaetus striatus (lined surgeonfish) that will inhabit the Indo-Pacific tank, as well as several specimens of moray eels of the species Gymnothorax moringa and Echelycore nigricans that will occupy the tropical moray eel tanks. In the oceanarium, eight specimens of Haemulon plumieri (white grunt) and six of Holocentrus rufus (longspine squirrelfish) will be introduced.
