We are AIZA
Conserve, research and educate
The Seville Aquarium is a member of AIZA (Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums), a professional association that represents the best zoos and aquariums in Spain and Portugal. Its main mission is to ensure animal welfare. Therefore, the members of this association work with demanding standards of animal care, welfare, veterinary care, and research, and carry out important educational and awareness-raising work for visitors regarding biodiversity and the need for its protection.
Currently, aquariums fulfill the following functions for society:
1. Conserve the biodiversity of the exhibited ecosystems.
2. Ensure the welfare of the living beings that inhabit their facilities.
3. Bring aquatic ecosystems closer to visitors.
4. Educate visitors on environmental protection in general and aquatic ecosystems in particular.
5. Research through their own projects or by participating in research from other institutions.
