Come and Meet the Sea Turtle Hatchlings
We work for marine biodiversity
Conservation, along with research and education, are the foundations upon which the Seville Aquarium was built. We care for over 7,000 animals daily, a great responsibility that gives meaning to the work of more than 40 employees at our center.
Aquariums are not just places of leisure. We would like you to know one of the fundamental values on which we base our work: conservation. Our center's conservation project focuses on sea turtles, the main foundation on which this center is built, its soul, its essence... a species facing many threats that needs everyone's collaboration.

We protect turtles
Last September, a nest with 15 newly hatched sea turtles (Caretta caretta) appeared on Can Pastilla Beach in Palma de Mallorca. Thus began the adventure for these sea turtles, which, although unaware, represent a new opportunity for their species.
Thanks to an agreement with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment of the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Consortium for the Recovery of Fauna of the Balearic Islands (COFIB), 10 turtles have been transferred to the Seville Aquarium to develop the “Head-starting breeding” program.
This project consists of strengthening these animals for approximately one year and their subsequent release into the sea, in order to contribute to the study and conservation of sea turtles, which are included in the list of endangered animals at risk of extinction.
You've Never been so Close to the Origin of Marine Life
At this moment, these Caretta caretta turtle hatchlings are in perfect health under the daily supervision of our technical team and can already be seen in the aquarium's animal welfare tank, where they will spend the next few months completing their growth and strengthening in an environment more faithful to their natural habitat.
These turtles will remain in our facilities until next summer, when they will be released into the sea with guarantees.

Story “the Baby Turtle Doesn't Use a Pacifier”
At the aquarium, we want to help children take the step of giving up their pacifier, and for this, we have created a story. But not just any story, one where the protagonist is one of the sea turtle hatchlings we temporarily care for.
But it's not just a story, it's an opportunity to actually give the pacifier to the sea turtle hatchlings, as next to the turtle tank, an urn has been installed where children who wish can leave their precious treasure.
