“GHOST NETS. MISSION EURIDICE”

Sea lovers are in luck

On October 25, we will have the presence of biologist Andrea Spinelli, Researcher and Scientific Communicator at the Oceanogràfic Foundation, and author (along with his brother Marco) of the documentary “Ghost Nets. Mission Euridice” which will be screened at the Global Omnium Auditorium (in the aquarium building) at 6:00 PM.

PROJECT “GHOST NETS. MISSION EURIDICE”
The project, which was initiated by Andrea Spinelli and his brother Marco, was carried out in 2021. The objective of this project was to remove fishing nets abandoned or accidentally lost in the Gulf of Cefalù (Sicily) and managed to extract a ton of these nets, which pose a great threat to the marine ecosystem.

The nets, which were removed by four professional divers, were transferred to a special waste disposal point. Due to the time they remained on the seabed, it was not possible to recycle them, as many of them had been abandoned for more than ten years.

The project also included the production of a documentary film with the work both in and out of the water, from the early stages to the removal of the nets and the environmental study.
