Here we save turtles

Sea turtle conservation

For the fourth consecutive year, the Seville Aquarium is joining the ‘Here we save turtles’ awareness campaign. This project aims to inform the public about how to react when encountering a sea turtle on our coasts, especially during the summer months and the nesting season of the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta)

The project began in 2019 in the Valencian Community, spearheaded by the Oceanogràfic Foundation, and in recent years has grown and expanded to other autonomous communities. For the past four years, the Seville Aquarium has been promoting the participation of Andalusian municipalities, helping this campaign reach all 102 coastal municipalities in the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia, the Balearic Islands, and Andalusia.

This initiative, supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP), and organizations such as Global Omnium and the Blue Marine Foundation, is made possible through the collaboration of regional governments and coastal municipalities. These entities are backing the awareness campaign to protect these animals during nesting season through posters displayed on street furniture. The posters will be placed in high-traffic, highly visible locations to inform beachgoers and visitors about the presence of sea turtles on the Mediterranean coast and that, in the event of a sighting, they should call 112 to activate the Stranding Network.

Thank you for your collaboration!

Participating municipalities of Andalusia

Many municipalities in the Mediterranean and Atlantic areas have already joined this campaign, and we hope to have more and more members because together we can change the future of sea turtles.
