New Exhibition “an Ocean in Motion”
This summer, the aquarium transforms into a unique venue for an exhibition that stands out for its artistic quality. From August 1st to September 15th, the aquarium’s hall will host the exhibition “An Ocean in Motion”. This display is free to access and is intended for all those who wish to explore the connection between art and the marine environment.
The exhibition is the work of Dúo Equipo Creativo, composed of Gabriela Diosdado Selma and Domingo Martínez González. Notable for their innovative use of the Gyotaku technique, these artists manage to methodically and faithfully record the shape and essence of fish. This Japanese printing technique is presented as a plea in defense of the natural world and an advocacy for healthy methods of artistic production, promoting environmental respect in the artists’ creative environment and in educational workshops.
“The printing method known as ‘Gyotaku’ has proven to be an excellent solution for those of us researching sustainable printmaking, as the fish at the center of the printing can be consumed after its impression on paper, thus demonstrating the non-toxicity of the process” affirms Domingo Martínez.
“An Ocean in Motion” presents a series of works featuring native species, highlighting marine biodiversity and the movement of aquatic animals, creating an atmosphere that invites reflection on the importance of respecting and caring for the ocean environment.
“It is a great honor for our aquarium to host this exhibition. Through these works of art, we can educate our visitors about the importance of ocean conservation and the historical connection between humans and the sea” assures Rocío Alcázar, manager of the aquarium.
Gabriela Diosdado and Domingo Martínez, graduates in Fine Arts from the Santa Isabel de Hungría Faculty of the University of Seville and members of the “Gyotaku Art Europe” Association, form “Dúo Equipo Creativo”. Their artistic trajectory and commitment to sustainable methods have left a significant mark on the contemporary art scene.
Through their meticulous work, this artistic couple transports us to an underwater world full of life and color, highlighting the beauty and fragility of our oceans. Each piece is a testimony to the rich biodiversity that the seas harbor and an invitation to protect them.
