Seville Aquarium, Open on Social Media
Juan Antonio Romero, Director of the Seville Aquarium, says that “although the aquarium is closed to the public, the work rhythm inside does not stop. The biology and maintenance staff continues to work to ensure the aquarium’s operability and, of course, the care and well-being of our animals, which is our main objective”.
The aquarium’s appearance is now different. In its facilities, always full of visitors and schoolchildren, now only this specialized staff moves around, working daily in different groups, taking all appropriate measures to minimize the risk of contagion and ensure daily care. Additionally, the aquarium’s cleaning team has disinfected all facilities and daily decontaminates common areas to ensure the safety of colleagues’ work.
Moreover, the Seville Aquarium has reinforced its social media project to bring the ocean to all its followers’ homes. “We have another team of professionals working daily to open the aquarium to visitors virtually. Through videos, games, and activities for the youngest in the house, we will try to teach about the maintenance of the aquarium animals as well as their curiosities” notes the aquarium director.
Some examples of these activities can be found in the video where sea animals remind us of the main measures to prevent contagion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9sTpl3-OGo) or in the latest video they have edited from the aquarium showing us how this exceptional situation is changing our lives (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ8KQXpjkjU).
We can also see videos with animal curiosities, content on how animals are cared for in the aquarium, as well as a new section with activities for children “Aquakids”, available on the website and social media, with a very interesting proposal: if children save all their activities with screenshots or photos, when the facilities reopen, they can go to the Aquarium for free.
