The Seville Aquarium Celebrates the Award “Princess of Asturias Award for Concord” Given to Oceanographer Sylvia Earle.
The Seville Aquarium celebrates the award given this morning to oceanographer Sylvia Earle. The 2018 Princess of Asturias Award for Concord thus recognizes the great contribution of the woman known as “the lady of the depths” to the exploration and research of the seabed and the conservation of the oceans.
The American oceanographer, named “Hero of the Planet” in 1998 by Time magazine and author of numerous documentaries for National Geographic, remains active at 82 years old. So much so that she is currently preparing her next expedition to the Coral Triangle (in Papua New Guinea) in which the Seville Aquarium will participate through its director, Juan Antonio Romero.
Precisely, the director of the Seville Aquarium, who collaborated with her in England and maintains a great friendship, values this award as “a recognition of Sylvia and the conservation of the oceans, because she has dedicated her life to actively raising awareness about the importance of marine ecosystems and the conservation of the seas, one of the most important challenges of our time.”
