The Seville Aquarium Celebrates Sea Turtle Week
Every June 16th, World Sea Turtle Day is celebrated, an event that the Seville Aquarium joins with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans and one of the most beautiful and at the same time most threatened animals on the planet.
Sea turtles, present in our oceans for millions of years, are essential for maintaining the good condition of marine ecosystems. That’s why it’s so important to protect the oceans, which are home to these fascinating marine creatures.
To celebrate this special day, the Seville Aquarium has scheduled different activities throughout this week:
1. Free admission for the little ones: From Monday, June 14 to Friday, June 18, children who bring a turtle made from recycled materials will receive a ticket to visit the aquarium as a prize, where they can see, among other animals, Chelo and Nando (the two Caretta caretta turtles that live in the oceanarium) and the baby turtles in the recovery tank at the end of the tour.
The only requirement is that they come accompanied by an adult who purchases their ticket at the box office and that the ticket is used at the moment of delivering the “little turtle”.
2. Exhibition in the aquarium hall about the threats to sea turtles (from Wednesday, June 16). An opportunity to learn about the fragile situation of this animal and the actions we can take individually to help this endangered species.
3. Storytelling “Chelo’s Great Journey”: On Saturday, June 19 at 11:30 am, families can attend a very special storytelling session where they can learn about the story of Chelo, the aquarium’s mascot. A sea turtle that arrived at the aquarium seven years ago to raise awareness among humans about the conservation status of turtles in the sea.
This activity is free with aquarium admission but has a limited capacity of 30 people, so prior reservation is required at www.acuariosevilla.es
Additionally this year, thanks to the collaboration with Famosa, the doll “Nancy, a day saving turtles”, joins the aquarium to celebrate this special day. Visitors can discover this doll (equipped to clean the ocean and save turtles), which joins the conservation and awareness-raising efforts that the Seville Aquarium team has been carrying out with these animals since its opening.
Thanks to this collaboration, the aquarium’s Facebook followers will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for three Nancys (check conditions on the @AcuarioSevilla profile)
