In commemoration of World Water Day, the Seville Aquarium has inaugurated the exhibition “Monuments of Rock and Salt”, dedicated to the Rota Corrals (Cádiz), a natural space of great importance for its ecological interest and for being a reflection throughout history of the coexistence between human activity and aquatic biodiversity.

The Rota Fishing Corrals, awarded the prestigious “Q” for Tourist Quality, and distinguished this year as the first destination in Spain to receive the “Tourism Sustainability” certification, are an outstanding example of commitment to environmental conservation and the promotion of responsible tourism practices. Additionally, they are an area of great ecological importance as they host a wide diversity of both animal and plant species.

The exhibition, inaugurated by the delegate of Ecological Transition of the Rota City Council, Pablo Gómez, along with various municipal technicians, Andrés Barba, representative of the Association “Corraleros and On-foot Fishermen of Rota Corrals”, and the aquarium manager, Rocío Alcázar, offers visitors an immersion into the history and biodiversity of this space recognized for its environmental, sociocultural value, as well as a model of sustainable fishing, heritage, and educational and tourist resource.

“Highlighting the value of the Rota Fishing Corrals through this exhibition on such a significant day as World Water Day is a unique opportunity to raise awareness among our visitors about the importance of preserving these fragile ecosystems and promoting responsible tourism that fosters environmental conservation” stated Rocío Alcázar, manager of the Seville aquarium.

This exhibition, which can be visited for free in the aquarium’s hall until April 21st, is one of the activities that the center is carrying out to celebrate its 10th anniversary and with which they want to highlight different Andalusian landscapes and threatened native fauna. An exhibition that will use informative panels, audiovisual resources, and educational activities to raise awareness among visitors about the importance of preserving these unique ecosystems.
